. Her parents were quite happy with her choice. “When I told them about my intentions, they were quite surprised as they believed that Islam is more conservative than any other religion. Even as an adult, I am yet to understand why everyone would choose Islamic over Hinduism. My parents never discussed it. Although they had both attended church for some years, neither of us ever talked about my decision in detail. We just supported my choices and prayed for peace with God.â€After college, when Ranjini got married, her father insisted that she convert to Islam. His insistence seemed to have affected her a lot, as she had begun associating herself with a certain community. For instance, instead of taking regular dates and visits, she spent money on new clothes and shoes to wear during her honeymoon. This was considered expensive, but the only thing was that she wore them once and then left them behind. Later when she became a mother, she stopped buying these ‘new’ clothes and decided to get used to the ones she already owned. Soon, she found that her husband felt ashamed whenever he looked inside the room. Since he wanted to make sure that she was comfortable while she was away, he took off all his clothes and changed into shorts and shirts even when they did not require them. Finally, he asked her to change back into clothing that she was comfortable with and went to bed. Now what does she think of this situation? Isn’t it strange that one should want to look attractive at all costs and one should feel embarrassed if it is not? How could someone feel anything like this? Is she still human or just a doll? Wasn’t it her fault she wasn’t smart enough? Maybe sometimes things do happen that you would rather not talk about.The biggest problem with religion is that people tend to follow whatever they are taught without questioning or questioning themselves. And there is no point in getting upset over something someone says. One has to accept it or else you risk breaking down, whether by quitting your job or giving up on your relationship. So let us stop blaming others for choosing a certain route. Let us all try to find
